About

Artsmontana.com was established March 27, 2007 as a service to the Livingston community. Costs of promoting the site are supported in some measure by our generous sponsors but editorial content is determined only by The Curator (below). Artists and arts links are unpaid and are chosen by ArtsMontana.com based on criteria described below.

[First Anniversary Note: ArtsMontana.com is meeting its goal to be the most comprehensive, one-stop resource for links to, articles about, and event information for Livingston’s diverse and rich creative community.]

Artsmontana.com is a discriminating and unified resource about the arts in Livingston, Montana. Artsmontana.com highlights the work of the many independent, professional artists who live and work in Livingston, and for whom art is a primary activity and, in some cases, a livelihood. It is also a source forLynn Weaver in her studio arts reviews, interviews, articles, events, and featured images. The focus has been on visual arts, but other arts will have increasing coverage here.

Artsmontana.com is produced by Lynn Weaver, a former gallery director and current owner/operator of Sparking Dawg Design.

I hope to generate participation in discussions about art, provide visitors and newcomers a picture of Livingston beyond and behind our celebrated Art Walks, and help art patrons find their way to these artists. I make no commissions from the artists or from galleries, and artists don’t pay to be linked. You can find out more about our many excellent local galleries at livingstongalleries.com. The visual artists listed on artsmontana.com:

  • Live and work in Livingston or the immediate area, usually from a studio at home or downtown, or have a strong Livingston tie by having their work regularly shown in Livingston galleries.
  • Make art as a primary activity and depend on this work for their livelihoods.
  • Have had their work in juried, curated, or invitational shows; and/or are represented in galleries in Montana and elsewhere.
  • Are in museum or private collections in Montana and elsewhere.
  • Have education and training in fine art.
  • Work independently and, for the most part, don’t operate their own galleries.

I appreciate the work of emerging, self-taught, or “Outsider” artists, too. Accomplishment comes in many forms. So I will make room for them on artsmontana.com if I have seen the work and/or it has been juried in some way (e.g curated as part of an invitation-only show at a local gallery).

Plans for 2008.

I believe that the Livingston Business Directory can add value to the site by enabling local business visibility along with arts visibility, increasing site visits, and supporting the cost of keeping the site fresh and useful.

Artsmontana.com welcomes Site Sponsorships or listings in Livingston’s only fully searchable, database-driven, categorical, and descriptive Business Directory. Unlike other Montana directories, this one focuses exclusively on Livingston and is locally maintained. Compare to national directories that include Livingston among thousands of listings, or to online Yellow Pages listings which don’t offer descriptive text. See the Business Directory in action. Download an informative rate sheet.

Artsmontana.com is a labor of love; current revenue from Business Sponsorships and Listings covers a portion of the expense of marketing the site and none of the hours of work.

P. S. Don’t confuse artsmontana dot com with artmontana dot com. Entirely different site.

  1. I have been creating glass art since 1983, have my studio, gallery & artists retreat in Paradise Valley, 10 miles north of Gardiner. I teach stained glass at my studio and we also teach other art mediums at our retreat called Yellowstone Artists’ Retreat.

I would love to part of ArtsMontana.com. Is that possible even though I do not live in Livingston? If so, I would appreciate your guidance and information.

[Thanks for inquiring. The site is just for Livingston-based arts for now to keep the information and links focused, clear, and easily organized. Perhaps a Park County arts blog is next? –Curator]

  2. It’s a beautiful site. What a wonderful addition to the community. Thanks Lynn!

You’re welcome. I appreciate the feedback, Jessica!
