The Danforth Gallery opens the fair weather art season with “Flourish”, an exhibition organized by Traci Isaly and Janie Camp. “Florish” features the work of Pete Stecher, Heather Bentz, Caleb Taylor, Storrs Bishop, Crystal Whitmore, Jill Judd, Mary Bartlo, Paul Heaston, Eli Isaly and Mike Devine. The show opens May 23rd with an artist’s reception open to PCFA members at 5 PM and the general public from 5:30 – 8:00 PM.
“The majority of the artists are new to us this year. We have three MSU grad students as well as new work from local artists”, said Janie Camp. “We thought “Flourish” applied to the actual time of year, the gallery opening for our summer season and the excitement we all feel during spring. It’s a time of new creation all around us, and you’ll certainly see that with these talented painters, sculptors, jewelers and photographers.”
Traci Isaly adds, “We’re very excited about seeing this group of work in one place. Storrs Bishop takes his photography to another level of creative expression. His clever way of creating a picture with several photos multi-layered into a 3-D image, is fun and fanciful.”
Other artists and their media: Pete Stecher – floral sculptures made from recycled hot water heaters accented with hand picked native rocks. His work will be seen both inside and out of the gallery. Heather Bentz, Crystal Whitmore, Mike Devine and Paul Heaston – featured painters. Jill Judd – jewelry made with cast pewter beads from the Greek Isle of Mykonos, accented with leather cording, natural gemstones, Swarovski crystals, freshwater coin pearls, or rhinestone rondells. Mary Bartlo – hand-woven and hand-dyed silk scarves, with patterns and colors inspired by Yellowstone National Park. Caleb Taylor – ceramics with meticulously applied glazes of earthen colors. Eli Isaly – handmade drums (these sold out on opening night of the 2007 season).
“Flourish” at the Danforth will hang from May 23rd until June 24th. New gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11–5 beginning May 23rd. For more information, call (406) 222-6510 or check www.pcfadanforth.org.
