Anne Norberg is currently exhibiting her art at CHADZ Cafe in a show entitled “Spontaneous Combustion.” The exhibit is accompanied by free verse and ” hot off the [hay] wire” art reviews from Rolling Stone, the Paris Review, the London Times and the San Francisco Chronicle. The show runs through the month of November. The works range from abstract and expressionistic to design and stylized cartoon. Among the titles: “Space Cadets Discuss Global Warming”and “Reincarnation.” Now I have got to go see what that is about.

The Danforth Gallery will have an artists’ reception this Friday evening, October 26, from 5 to 8 PM. The Park County Friends of the Arts’ non-profit gallery continues its guest curator program with New ‘Buena’, a collection curated by Bozeman artist Dana Aaberg. Aaberg brings together an interesting selection of works, both abstract and representational, including his own work and that of Tom Ferris, Adair Peck, Katrin H. Voulkos, Diane Draper, Kat Houseman, Sarah Souther and Toni Moilanen.
“We’re delighted to have an artist of Dana’s reputation and skill at the Danforth,” said Joanne Gardner, president of the board of the PCFA, the non profit organization that houses the Danforth Gallery. “The guest curator theory this year has brought an amazing collection of work and artists to our space and we’ve had a great response to this season.”
The show runs through December 4. The Danforth is at 106 N. Main in historic downtown Livingston. pcfadanforth.org. 406/222-6510.
Make it an art-filled weekend by stopping by the LCAC the following night (Saturday, October 27) for an opening reception of “Dog Gone It: Livingston’s Love Affair with the Dog.”

Writer Charlotte Freeman has a piece on the “Ethicurean” blog. With its motto, “Chew the right thing,” ethicurean. com is about “tasty things that are also sustainable, organic, local, and/or ethical.” This is just the place to ask why Alice Waters is involved in the Ameya Preserve. Good thinking, good reading.

Maggie McGuane has an excellent article in this month’s Vogue about what happens in her blended family when her partner’s son decides to enlist. It’s a thoughtful, moving, and (as always) well-written piece for the October Vogue’s Up Front feature (page 192). Those who know Maggie and/or her writing know her to be a searching, honest, and fine writer, and this tough look at the issues of step-parenting, having different points of view from those of the man you love, opportunities for rural kids, loving someone else’s children, and having to bend your mind and will to accept another’s choices proves the point. Local stores have sold out of their copies, but the library has the magazine.
